Who is Srila Prabhupada?

Srila Prabhupada took Krishna to the world

Srila Prabhupada is a pure devotee of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Sri Krishna. He transformed many bohemians in the world to take up devotion to Krishna.

Did you ever notice that there is a Krishna temple in almost every country of the world?

Wonderful. Isn’t it?

But you know what, it did not all happen by chance. Nor did it happen through any persistent persuasion by the Hindus.

No.

Here’s the interesting part, it was Srila Prabhupada who did it single-handedly. All within 12 years.

He was all alone in America in 1966. However, in Nov 1977 just before leaving this world, he had around 10,000 ardent disciples, from different countries and opposing cultures. They all voluntarily took up the essence of the Vedic teachings to their heart. Moreover, they were able to surpass all this to follow the strict Vaishnava principles.

Because all of them had faith on their spiritual master, Srila Prabhupada.

Not only that, there were thousands of congregation and life members across the world. They were ever ready to support ISKCON, the institution set up by Srila Prabhupada.

Consequently, in a span of 12 years and there were 108 temples around the world.

No wonder, this cultural transformation has no parallel in the history of time.

Thomas J Hopkins, Professor Emeritus Franklin & Marshall College is a religious historian. He recently spoke at the Harvard Divinity School about Srila Prabhupada’s achievement. He said Srila Prabhupada’s effort to spread Krishna Consciousness has no parallel in history.

Further, he compares this with what Jesus Christ and Muhammad did to spread Christianity and Islam. As a matter of fact, he puts forward that both Jesus and Muhammad were preaching in a familiar culture to their own people.

In contrast, Srila Prabhupada, was all alone in a foreign land in a completely opposite and unfamiliar culture. Therefore, this sets him apart.

Imagine, a 70-year-old Indian person going to America for the first time. He sets out on a mission to fulfill the instruction of his spiritual master.

The mission impossible

What was the mission?

To spread the glories of Lord Caitanya and Krishna’s Holy Names all over the world.

That is to say, it is no ordinary feat by any means. At the time he was to set out for America, people will laugh at Srila Prabhupada. They thought how can westerners ever become devotees of Krishna.

Think about it. It was indeed an impossible task. Especially, when you consider that Srila Prabhupada did not compromise on the Vaishnava rules.

What is more wonderful is that apart from opening up 108 centers around the world, he also made more than 10,000 disciples.

Moreover, many of them were westerners who gave up eating meat, drinking intoxicants – including tea or coffee, indulging in any gambling, speculation or betting and also did not indulge in sexual activities outside marriage.

Such Vaishnava principles is a deterrent for any Indian, so what to speak of people born in American culture.

So, one person, singularly, was able to penetrate an entire culture change. Moreover, it was just not for people of one culture but spanning across many different cultures. All this in 12 years.

Therefore, this website is a dedication to Srila Prabhupada. You will be able to understand how did it all happen. What was the thing that was changing so many hearts?

There has to be something really special.

Come, Lets find out!
